Joni Woodward - "My brick wall is Richard W. NANCE who married Sylvestra FRETWELL in Jefferson County, Alabama in 1842. I have found Richard and Sylvestra in Texas on the 1850 census. I'm looking for more info on his parents. I have no knowledge of his brothers or sisters, if any, but his sons were named Benjamin, Samuel A., (born in Alabama), John Henry, and William H. (born in Texas) His daughters were Frances and Alabama Louisa (born in Texas). His oldest daughter's death certificate says he was born in Talladega County, Alabama. I estimate he was born between 1818 and 1820. Sometime between 1858 and 1860, Richard divorced Sylvestra and is found in Tallapoosa with his sons Benjamin, Alexander (Samuel), and John, a new wife, Mary, and a daughter about 4 months old, Sarah E."

Karen - (Per Karen) Mary Elizabeth NANCE b.AL; d.1895 in IL m. Wm Edgar HOOD of IL I believe her to be the daughter of Leonard NANCE b.1841 TN and Sarah b.abt 1849 AL Her siblings: James P. NANCE b. Sep 1866 AL m. Mattie (4 ch: Leonard, Mattie, Conie, Josephine) Claiborn NANCE b. Mar 1870 AL Wm Edgar HOOD and Mary Elizabeth NANCE had a child, Bessie Madeon HOOD b.4 Apr 1891 Russelville, Franklin, AL;d.16 May 1965 San Diego, CA m.1st Thelbert Roper HAMILTON; 2nd Futhjof AAMADT; 3rd Thomas GARNER The family must've went to his home in Illinois after her birth and Mary died there in 1895. Wm put Bessie with an aunt to raise and he left (not sure which side of family). Wm was last heard of in NM abt 1897. I knew where both Mary and Wm were from and the only other clue I had was that both of their fathers had the same given name and one fought for the South and one for the North in the CW. Using the 1870 census, I found this family and also one for Wm. Am not positive, but believe this to be her family.
Dick Edwards - I am researching my NANCE line. My 7th generation ancestor, Reuben NANCE, resided in Henry County VA and had 20 children. His 2nd wife, Nancy BROWN was my ancestor. Family tradition has him descended from the 1604 immigrant Richard NANCE, but I have no proof. One theory has him descended through Wm. Sr. and Wm. Jr.. Another has him descended through a John NANCE.
