This Indenture made the 9th day of September in the year of one thousand eight hundred & nineteen, between John Rice of the County of Rockingham State of North Carolina of the one part and Thomas Gibson of the County of Caswell State aforesaid of the other part whitnesseth that the said John Rice being indebted to Azariah Graves of the said County of Caswell and state a foresaid in the sum of Four hundred and Seventy five dollars 86cts and being desirous to secure the same the said Azariah Graves and for the further consideration of the sum of on dollar to the said John Rice in hand paid by the said Thomas Gibson the receipt of which is hereby a which is hereby acknowledged have bargined + sold, and by these presents the said John Rice do bargain & Sell a lein and confirm to the said Thomas Gibson a certain tract or parcel of land lying situate and being in the County of Rockingham on the Waters of Hogans Creek and bounded as follows by the lands of Robert A Brown, William H Rice , William Cole Junr., John Crawford and Frederick Nance it being a tract of Land the said Rice purchased of John Nance Senr containing one hundred and eighteen acres more or less to have and to hold the above bargained and sold land + property to the said Thomas Gibson his Heirs and Representatives forever together with all the tenements and hereditaments thereunto belonging and the said John Rice for himself his Heirs & Representatives doth hereby forever Warrant & defend the title interest & claim of the said land & property to the said Thomas Gibson his heirs & Representatives for ever free from the claim of all person or persons whatsoever upon this special trust & confidence however that if the said John Rice shall fail or refuse to pay to the said Azariah Graves the aforesaid sum of four hundred & seventy five dollars 85cts on or before the 25th day of Decemr next together with the legal interest due thereon and together with such other sum or sums of money as may be then due justly due to the said Azariah Graves from the said John Rice, then + in that case, the said Thomas Gibson may & he is hereby authorized & directed upon application, either by the said Azariah Graves, or the said John Rice to proceed to sell the aforesaid tract of land & property to the highest bidder for cash, having first advertised the sale of the same for twenty days in at least three publick places in County of Rockingham and after having duly sold the same to the hightes bidder for the highest price that could be obtained for the same he the said Thomas Gibson - shall first pay over to the said Azariah Graves such sum or sums of Money mentioned in the deed of trust due to the said Azariah Graves, and the expenses of carrying this deed into effect then the said Thomas Gibson shall pay over to the said John Rice the Balance of the money remaining in his hands, if any In Testimony whereof we have hereto set our hands and seals the day and date above mentioned

Richardson the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents , doth bargain & sell R. Pr Richardson and his pieces all right title and interest of the Said John T Nance as aforesaid in and to the following track or parcel of land lived on as aforesaid situated in Rockingham and bounded as follows , to - wit Troublicome Creek Koron V Barter , Thomas C. Meader R. P. Richardson & otherand containing One Hundred and Eighty five John I Nance now Exorder , To have and to hold said land and premises with the improvements and appurtenances , to him the said R. P. Richardson his heirs and assigns , in as full & ample a manner as the undersigned is empowered by virtue of his Office to convey and assure the same And the under signed Sheriff as aforesaid doth covenant and promise agree to and with the said R. P. Richardson his heirs and assigns that he and they shall and more at all times hereafter have , hold occur pay use and possess said lands and premises free and clear of and from all incumbrances , had , made or done by the undersigned , or by his order means or procurement : and that the undersigned , will forever warrant and defend said lands and premises , to the said R. P. Richardson his heirs and assigns so for as his said Office of Sheriff will authorize and inable him to do and no fuslue ) In testimony whereof the undersigned Sheriff as aforesaid hath hereunto set his hand and seal this 18th day of June 1867 J.
